The Associated Press has announced that executive Charles Pavlounis has been named the global news agency’s senior vice president and chief financial officer.

As CFO, Pavlounis will oversee all corporate finance, including accounting, financial planning and budgeting, treasury and internal audit. Additionally he will be responsible for global real estate, administrative services and procurement.

“Charles has extensive experience and a proven track record in strategic leadership,” said AP President and CEO Daisy Veerasingham. “He will play a pivotal role in guiding our global news organization as AP looks toward the future.”

Pavlounis joins AP from Argus Holdings, LLP, where he served as executive vice president and chief business development officer. Previously he was executive vice president of business development and CFO of CBS News, where he directed all financial matters and identified new business development initiatives, including content development, audio streaming, and new revenue streams with strategic partners.

Prior to CBS News, Pavlounis was senior vice president and chief audit executive at CBS Corporation. Before he began his tenure at CBS, he held a variety of positions in financial management and corporate compliance at companies including Wyndham Worldwide Corp., Dun & Bradstreet, Interpublic Group of Companies, Mercer, Inc. and KPMG.

“It is an honor to join a storied news organization like The Associated Press, an organization renowned for its commitment to journalistic excellence and whose mission to advance the power of facts is vitally important,” said Pavlounis. “I look forward to working with the talented team at the AP to support this crucial work.”

Pavlounis, a certified public accountant, holds a B.S. from Pace University.

Pavlounis will replace Ken Dale, who retires later this year.

“Ken has steered the AP as an independent, not-for-profit news organization through some of the most significant milestones of its long history and we are deeply grateful,” Veerasingham said.

Dale, who joined AP in October 2000 in business development and was named senior vice president and CFO in 2004, has played an essential role in guiding the independent news cooperative through a rapidly changing media environment.
