The America's Newspapers Foundation is pleased to announce that The Post and Courier, Charleston, South Carolina, and The Seattle Times in Washington have become the latest members to generously contribute a scholarship for the 2024-25 Executive Development Program.

They join Software Consulting Services (SCS) and Seyfarth Shaw LLP, both Gold Solutions Partner members of America’s Newspapers, and Cribb, Cope & Potts, a Silver Solutions Partner member. Together, their support will enable promising newspaper industry professionals to take part in this prestigious leadership training program.

The Executive Development Program, originally inspired by the Inland Press Foundation, is a cornerstone initiative of the America's Newspapers Foundation, designed to develop and elevate the next generation of newspaper industry leaders. This intensive, multi-session program offers participants unparalleled opportunities for professional growth, networking and exposure to cutting-edge industry practices.

"We are grateful to these members for their commitment to building the future leadership within our industry," said Dean Ridings, CEO of America’s Newspapers. "Their support directly contributes to the future of quality journalism and more sustainable newspaper management across the country."

The Post and Courier

The Post and Courier, the South's oldest daily newspaper, traces its roots to The Courier, founded in 1803, and The Evening Post, founded in 1894. In 1926, the two newspapers were drawn closer together when The Courier, which had then become The News and Courier, was purchased by The Evening Post Industries Company. Both newspapers maintained separate news staffs until the 1980s, when those staffs were combined. In 1991, when it became apparent that reading habits were better served by a single edition of the newspaper — a morning edition — the two papers were merged to become The Post and Courier. The newspaper is now published by The Post and Courier, Inc.

As of October 1, 2021, Evening Post Industries was re-structured and split into three companies under a plan to realign the holdings of the family-owned company. The Post and Courier and the other papers that were previously under Evening Post Industries, now operate under Evening Post Publishing Inc. The group also operates a book publisher and White Oak Forestry, which owns and manages timberland, mostly in the Georgetown area. Blethen, The Seattle Times’ stewardship is now led by the Blethen family’s fourth and fifth generations, whose stewardship also includes The Yakima Herald-Republic and The Walla Walla Union-Bulletin.
