Gannett pledges to achieve gender, racial, ethnic parity with local communities by 2025

Gannett's USA TODAY Network newsrooms each shared data yesterday on the gender, racial and ethnic diversity of their newsrooms, and announced a goal of achieving parity with their communities by 2025.  Annual progress will be reported by the newspapers.

The company also announced the creation of 60 jobs to expand coverage of inequities in the country — 20 at USA TODAY and 40 around the country. About one third of the jobs will be new hires; the others will be reassignments.

Overall, Gannett reported that women make up 46 percent of its workforce and Black, Indigenous and people of color make up 22%.  In the news division, about 41% of its journalists are female and 18% are people of color.
