Salary disparities are most visible factor of discrimination against Latino journalists

Posted

A recent post by an RJI Fellow about the threats and online/offline harassment of Latino journalists working in the U.S. highlights the disparity between salaries of the “general market” and the Hispanic market. During a survey, one photojournalist noted that the salary in one of their jobs was almost 50 percent less than the same position in English.

Salary disparities and work environment — such as inadequate equipment, low number of staff on a team and insufficient time to process the work — are the main reasons Latino journalists have felt discriminated against by their white colleagues, according to a survey by Fundamedios.
